Jackson Pollock
"When I am in my painting, I'm not aware of what I'm doing. It is only after a sort of 'get acquainted' period that I see what I have been about. I have no fear of making changes, destroying the image, etc., because the painting has a life ofits own. I try to let it come through. It is only when I lose contact with the painting that the result is a mess. Otherwise there is pure harmony, an easy give and take, and the painting comes out well".
When I took AH5, Sir Kibs showed us a film about the life of a struggling painter named Jackson Pollock. Pollock struggled to let his paintings be made known to the rest of the world. Yet, he can't think of a strategy or a form to make his paintings unique as possible. But as time passes by and as the ideas of the what we consider "art"changes, his style was born. That's why he became famous. And his style is abstract surrealism according Wikipedia (jajaja!).
The above quotation from Pollock says that he worked on his paintings on what he calls pure harmony. The harmony of never losing contact with the painting or elseit would turn out a trash. Trash? It's unquestionable that for us who doesn't appreciate his works, we would think that his works are really a mess. We would think it's useless because it doesn't represent something that we easily grasp on the idea of it. We think he destroys the "art". But I have realized that the art that he was trying to portray in his works is not actually the painting or the piece itself. But rather the emotions, his 'get acquainted' period and the manner on how he came about his piece is what transformed his works into works of art or simply fine art.
The non-representational painting I chose, for me, reveals a feeling of happiness. This is because of the vibrant colors that is present. Well, it looks messed up but in some way it shows a more dynamic output. Pollock describes his own lines, shapes, and colors without actually representing them. Just the mere thought of splashing and splashing his paints towards the canvass with a touch of spirit and enthusiasm to paint.
